TA18 is a nearly α-type titanium alloy with nominal composition Ti-3Al-2.5V, specifically developed for cold-processed pipe applications. Offering 20%-50% higher strength than pure titanium at both room and elevated temperatures, it features superior welding and cold forming performance compared to TC4 alloy.

TA18 alloy is typically used in annealed state, though cold-processed and stress-relieved annealed states are also applicable. Maximum operating temperature: ≈315°C.

Component variations significantly affect alloy properties. Increased oxygen enhances strength but reduces plasticity, while excess hydrogen causes embrittlement.

Heat Treatment Systems
  • Annealing: Conducted in vacuum furnace (≤0.09Pa) at 650-790°C (±15°C) for 30-120min, followed by furnace cooling.
  • Stress Relief Annealing: Performed at 370-600°C for 15-240min with air or furnace cooling (per GJB 3763-1999 specifications).
Manufacturing Process

Alloy requires minimum two vacuum consumable electrode arc furnace melting cycles.

Performance Enhancement
  • Solution Treatment: 900-950°C range improves strength while maintaining plasticity/toughness
  • Aging Treatment: 500-600°C stabilizes structure, enhances creep/fatigue resistance
  • Quenching: Water/oil quenching increases hardness and wear resistance
