904L (N08904, 14539) super austenitic stainless steel contains 14.0-18.0% chromium, 24.0-26.0% nickel, and 4.5% molybdenum. This low-carbon, high nickel, molybdenum austenitic stainless steel features excellent activation passivation transformation ability and superior corrosion resistance.

Corrosion Resistance Features

904L's low carbon content (≤0.020%) prevents carbide precipitation during heat treatment and welding, eliminating intergranular corrosion risks. The high chromium-nickel-molybdenum content with copper addition enables passivation even in reducing environments like sulfuric and formic acids.

  • Phosphoric acid: Excellent resistance in 0-85% concentrations
  • Nitric acid: Lower corrosion resistance than high-alloyed molybdenum-free steels
